Love Birth© Pamala Gifford, 2022
This piece’s subject is something I think about daily. How to bring attention to LOVE and how to birth it into your life on a daily basis. Fear is just the lack of LOVE. I don’t think our world is necessarily lacking love but I think people do not know how to show their love to their fellow humans. There has been too much focus on not giving anything to anyone unless you get something in return. What do you think would happen if you walked through life and projected love to everyone you met? Not judging people for what they lack or their poor behavior but just exhaling love to all people and animals you come across. When you breathe in…smile…and when you exhale…exhale from your heart area. Send a beautiful pink cloud of LOVE outward…

Dragonfly© Pamala Gifford, 2020
This little piece of work is so cute! The dragonfly sitting against the pastel background makes it so dainty and charming. It has a textured background with vines that anchor it instead of floating in space. The dragonfly has metallic wings to sparkle in the light. I hope you enjoy him as much as I do.

Salmon Migration © Pamala Gifford, 2022
When you live in the Pacific Northwest, salmon are an important part of your everyday life. The Native American’s harvest them to eat and sell. In most of the elementary schools there is a fish tank set up each year to watch salmon eggs grow into fry and then they take the kids and the fry to the local streams and let them loose. There are salmon in art pieces, on shirts and in a lot of the statues in the local parks. In the fall, the salmon come back to the streams and spawn….the smell of rotting fish is the first sign that you are getting ready to cross over a stream while driving. When I started putting the paint to the canvas, I had no set intention of what to create but as I moved the paint around and started adding other colors, salmon fry came to mind. I hope you like the natural feel of this abstract painting and its representation of the circle of life.

Distance © Pamala Gifford, 2022
This painting represents the layers of trees and land that we are surrounded by here in the Pacific Northwest. The layers of trees draw your eye upward into the never ending distance. If you think about it….distance truly is never ending….I love the earth tone colors throughout the painting. We are surrounded by beautiful outdoors here in the Pacific Northwest.

In the Beginning© Pamala Gifford, 2022

In the Pacific Northwest, we are surrounded by many Native American tribes. I value their beliefs that the Great Spirit (which does NOT mean a mono-god) watches over people, animals, the sky and ground….all organic beings on this planet. The moon moves the tides. The sun makes food grow to feed animals and humans. The rain keeps the plants alive. The snow brings hibernation and a time of slowing down. The spring brings life renewed. The basic symbols in this painting cover the elements that keep the circle of life revolving.

Monster Envy© Pamala Gifford, 2013
I was practicing with a fan brush and noticed that it started to look like fur and then the brush strokes reminded me of Cookie Monster….and this is how most of my paintings end up being created. I hope you enjoy the movement of the brush strokes and the blues and greens blending together. This painting will make a great conversation piece. When asked what it means…you can tell them it is a close up for Cookie Monster’s fur….

In Motion© Pamala Gifford, 2021
I created this piece to represent the waves that are seen on a daily basis in my neck of the woods. The round ball caught under the crest of the wave represents the many glass buoys found along the shores of a body of salt water. I love the bright blue contrasting against the matte black background. The waves that never end. Is it a new wave each time or just the same wave going up and down in infinity? You decide.

Purple Exploration I© Pamala Gifford, 2017
I love the texture in this piece. The purple background with the orange contrast shooting across the canvas and the white to draw upwards a tad…a representation of a sunrise. Surrounded by a wooden black shadowbox frame makes the painting pop with color.

Jasper in June© Pamala Gifford, 2018

Sometimes doing art the same way because someone “discovered” a new method gets boring. I decided to have a flat teal background and not allow my acrylic pour to spread all over the canvas. I love the mineral looking center, which reminds me of jasper, against the flat background. Surrounded by a black shadowbox frame makes the teal stand out.

This grouping of four square canvases is an original 20 x 20 piece. It is mounted on wood lathe painted black with a wire hanger. The turtle is a transfer onto the canvas. The bubbles are gold with silver highlights. I am a turtle lover and being able to see a live turtle one time while visiting Oahu made me fall in love even more.

Lucy © Pamala Gifford, 2020
I was very pleased with the outcome of this original. I love the colors, so bright to celebrate springtime. This acrylic pour, with a hairdryer for a blow-out, left me with a pattern that resembles an iris if you scrunch up your eyes while gazing at it. These colors bring joy to any room in which it will be placed.

Teal Drip © Pamala Gifford, 2014
This is an original piece that I painted several years ago. I was trying out color combinations in abstract paintings and thought teal, white and black made a nice combo. The black at the bottom keeps you grounded as your eye is led upwards with the teal and white.

Confetti Two © Pamala Gifford, 2020
This piece has plenty of negative white space to allow the multi-color pallet to shine through. With all the colors of the rainbow and more…this piece will fit any room decor. Painting would also look good hung vertically on an end wall or next to a grouping of smaller paintings or wall decor.

Metallic orbs © Pamala Gifford, 2000
This original was my first attempt at using a paste for adding texture to an art project. The metallic paints were a new addition to my material supply also. I chose soothing greens and blues for colors and used container caps to make the orbs. I usually paint landscapes using oils. I felt that it was time to try something new. Something abstract, something small, something that dries faster than oils. This is a nice piece to add a little color and shine to a small space, like a half-bath in your home.

Magenta Eruption © Pamala Gifford, 2019
I love this little piece! Pink, orange, yellow, blue, magenta, green and white combine to make something that reminds me of those rock candies we used to eat when we were kids. I suppose they do not make that kind of candy anymore though. This generation is surely missing out!

Study in Earth Tones © Pamala Gifford, 2017

This original piece is one of my first attempts at doing collage work. I love all the pretty little maple leaves that I see lying on the ground and thought I would add them to a canvas that I was playing with. I love earth tones and I like the differing light and (not too) dark on my canvas. These leaves were dried between some book pages. The medium I adhered the leaves with almost takes on an impasto-like appearance.

Sapphire Dream © Pamala Gifford, 2018

This original piece was one of my first using a black background for a pour. I love the metallic blue and violet cells that appeared from adding silicone to the paint mixture. The black paint was wet when I poured the blue, violet and white paints onto the canvas. I like how the black did not invade the colors too much but still dried with a few black cells at the edges.

Azteca © Pamala Gifford, 2020

Sugar Sugar © Pamala Gifford, 2014
For this original piece, I used stencils for the skull and some of the circles. I had never used stencils before and it was a fun and, at times, maddening process. I was worried the paint would run underneath the stencil and make an unidentifiable blob. But luck was on my side that day and it turned out to be a fun art piece. I like the spring colors and the flatness of the paint. It has a watercolor feel to it.

Peacock Web © Pamala Gifford, 2019
For this original piece, I used my pallet knife to cut through the paint after it had sat on the canvas for a while. The result made me think of a peacock, hence how the painting got its name. This will look cute hung up in one of those tiny spots that just need something there.

Lemon Wisps © Pamala Gifford, 2019
A lemon colored path runs diagonally on this original piece. When combining yellow with blue paint, you run the risk of coming up with all green and no yellow. I got lucky this time that some of the yellow remained true to itself.

Mercury © Pamala Gifford, 2018
This original black, white and silver piece would look nice grouped with two small mirrors or two small paintings. I like the silver sheen on this canvas. Not too much negative space left on the canvas but enough left to create some breathing room for the black and silver cells.

Crimson Flow © Pamala Gifford, 2017
This original piece is one of my favorites. I usually stick with greens and blues in my abstract paintings and this is the first one that I stepped out of my box and used….RED. EEEK! Once the gold mixed with the red and turned it a blood orange color, I was hooked. I love how the gold laced across the canvas with one pink vein in the darker portion of the piece. Using “pouring” as a method is like gambling. You never know how your work is going to come out because the painting continues to develop as the paint dries. Sometimes it is a winner, sometimes a bust. In my opinion, this one turned out a winner.
